R.O.D – Repeating Outfit Disorder. (Yes, it’s real, and it’s a term in Urban Dictionary).
We all love that feeling of a new outfit. Putting it on for the first time, the opportunity to showcase something we’ve never won before and dazzle the world with it. But is repeating outfits all that bad? Is it really as shameful as Kate made lizzie feel in the Lizzie McGuire movie?
As nice at it might be to buy something new, the implications that this has on the planet and our communities is devastating – with 2,625kg of clothing being burned or sent to landfill every second. The Ellen MacArthur Foundation found that this is equivalent to filling 1.5 empire state buildings every day or filling Sydney Harbour every year. This is why, aside from renting (of course), rewearing our beloved items we already own is one of our favourite ways to reduce fashion waste.
We buy clothes because we love them, and they make us feel good. Our clothes showcase who we are, our style and our personalities and the more we rewear our pieces, the more of a story each garment tells. So, we should wear them loud and proud, and wear them more than once. We’ve compiled a list of powerful females and true style icons who disobey the so-called fashion rulebook and wear what they want, when they want.
Kate Middleton
Hailed as the Queen of Style, Kate Middleton has been frequently seen rewearing outfits. Her beautifully classic styles are altered slightly by accessorising with different items.
Michelle Obama
One of our favourite females, Michelle holds her own and isn’t afraid to rewear those striking prints.
Rita Moreno
Rita Moreno proves that age is just a number as she sports the same Oscars dress from 1962 to the Oscars in 2018.

Keira Knightly
Hero’s don’t always wear capes, but they do upcycle Chanel dresses and wear them to their wedding.

Kim K and Kris J
Like mother like daughter… not necessarily outfit repeating, more so outfit sharing – Kim and Kris both rock this striking red Ricardo Tisci gown on the red carpet.

Tiffany Haddish
Girls trip star Tiffany Haddish has reworn her Alexander McQueen dress 3 times… so far. No shame in wearing a gorgeous look over and over, as she humorously mentioned in her SNL sketch; she paid $4,000 for it, so wants to make the most of it.

Anna Wintour
“I usually wear the same dress twenty times. I think it’s always fun to have something new, but it doesn’t mean that everything you already have in your closet has to be thrown out you know. Recycle”. From the mouth of the editor in chief herself, if she can do it… then so can you.

Carrie Bradshaw
From the opening scene of the first season to the opening scene of the movie, this iconic outfit is playful, fun and timeless. Impossible to not want to to repeat.

Kate Moss
And finally, we have Kate, a true fashion muse, recycling her gorgeous classic LBD. So, what are you waiting for ladies? Do like Kate and find that sexy black dress of yours, pair with a red lip and some killer heels and wear it on your next night out.
